Day 164-166 – Miraflores, PE

Day 164-166 – Miraflores, PE      02/01-03/11       Mileage: 0

I spent the last three days running errands, getting a haircut, laundry, working on the blog and giving the KLR some much needed TLC. I’ve been riding mostly dirt for the last 10 days through southern Ecuador and northern Peru and in the last few days especially the bike has really taken a pounding. I changed the oil and filter, changed both front and rear brake pads, adjusted the chain, cleaned the air filter and a few other odd and ends.

NOW I feel like I’m back in civilization…a Starbucks!

Next time I’m taking this rig. You don’t have to pack light and local parts are always available!!  🙂

Wednesday night I met some fellow bikers and (ADV’ers) who have been stranded here in Lima with two dead bikes.

Alberto (aka – betitolara)and Naomi (aka – svensmanager) started from their home near Vancouver, Canada on their new BMW F800’s who’s engines both essentially self destructed north of Lima. Bad gas is suspected, but nobody can say for sure yet. They’ve been working with the local BMW dealer, their Canadian dealer and BMW in Germany to get their bikes fixed, and BMW Canada finally came through for them and is going to pick up the tab for repairing the bikes. That is great news for them! I hope they are back on the road soon so perhaps we can share some miles down the road.

My God have you been busy!!!!!!! I get tired just reading what you get done and looking at the results on te blog. Pictures are just outstanding. Stories keep me happy when I see such lovely people doing the same thing as you. I hope you can ride some way with the guy and girl who’s bikes are broken. Glad BMW is coming through for them.

Was glad to see Becki and Scott following the blog and John D. makes me laugh with all the adventures his Dad went on. I remember how surprised I was when we first met him.

So glad to see that you were on the Pan Americana Hwy today and that meant no potholes and safe riding. Be well and be safe. Love ya, Mom

    Hey there,

I just stumbled upon your site when looking for the address of the guy who has the lazy lizzard for sale. I could be remotely interested but rumour has it he is asking over a million US, have you dug into this? Let me know, could be fun….

Looks like you have lots of hilly roads to get to Cuzco. You got an early start today and everyone is enjoying the Abbott and Costello cop story.

Spoke to Jacquie and they had to have someone come and take the snow off of David and Lilly’s roof because it is just too heavy and lots of problems up there in Massachusetts. Rena also is having problems and the snow is so high all over. Hoping your friends up in Vermont, New Hampshire, etc. are doing okay with all the snow up there.
Stay well and stay safe. Love ya, Mom

PAUL AND KIM ARE TOO FUNNY. I WAS THINKING THE SAME THINGS FOR THE MONEY AND BIKE PARKED IN THE LOBBY. BUT YOU HAVE A FACE THAT PEOPLE BELIEVE AND IF YOU DON’T ASK YOU DON’T KNOW…..YOU HAVE TO DO WHAT IS BEST FOR YOU WITHOUT HURTING AN INNOCENT PARTY.

I SEE THAT YOU ARE ALMOST AT CUZCO AND IT IS 1:45PM HERE. HOPING YOU HAVE GOOD ROADS AND GOOD WEATHER.
LAST NIGHT WE WERE IN THE TWILIGHT ZONE DRIVING TO RENEE’S SURPRISE PARTY……THE FOG WAS THE WORST WE HAVE EVER SEEN. BUT THE PARTY WAS A SURPRISE ON EVERYONE IN ATTENDENCE BECAUSE WHEN THEY GOT THERE AN HOUR LATER, THEY ANNOUNCED THAT IT WAS REALLY THIER WEDDING AND THEY GOT MARRIED. VERY INFORMAL AND WE HAD A GOOD TIME. WE WISH THEM ALL THE HAPPINESS AND HER SONS WERE THE RINGBEARERS.
TOLD PEOPLE WE HAVEN’T SEEN IN A WHILE ABOUT YOUR ADVENTURE AND EVERYONE THOUGHT IT WAS GREAT! YOU ARE AMAZING!
WE ARE GOING TO A SUPERBOWL PARTY AND GOING TO DO SOME FOOD SHOPPING NOW. BE WELL AND BE HAPPY. LOVE YA, MOM
